Local Lifestyle

Rockridge is one of Oakland’s best neighborhoods to find local markets, trendy cafes, eclectic boutiques, and a number of other great local businesses. With much of the community boasting walk scores in the 90s, it’s safe to say a stroll down College Avenue can easily encompass the entirety of a day, with even longtime locals discovering new gems each week. Perfectly positioned in the middle of north-central Oakland, Rockridge is not only close to all the wonderful amenities urban life has to offer, but also parks, hillside trails, golf courses, and so much more.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

One day is simply not enough to cover all there is to be discovered on College Avenue. Trendy dining, shopping, spas, and more all await, with outdoor fun situated just a few minutes away.

Cole Coffee is the favorite place for many locals to begin their days. For nearly 30 years, Cole has been serving up all the classics, both hot and iced, and a few unique creations of their own, like the horchata latte and Mexican hot cocoa. Freshly baked chocolate chip banana bread, egg salad sandwiches, and their famous poached egg toast are a few favorite midday treats.

Another midday favorite, Zachary’s Chicago Pizza, has been a go-to lunch option for the community since 1983. The winner of over 225 local awards has built a solid reputation for their Chicago-style deep-dish pies, spinach and mushroom pizza, and their alternative thin crust pizza.

The Bay Area is home to some of the best Asian cuisine outside of the Far East, and Rockridge has not been excluded. The Ramen Shop has been adored by the local community for a decade for their delivery of progressive takes on classic soups and other traditional dishes. The Monterey Bay squid and pork fried rice and pickle plate are popular appetizers, with the red kabocha ginger miso ramen being the most popular soup served.

Special nights out are enjoyed at The Wood Tavern on College Avenue. A refreshing menu of California-inspired fare is enjoyed in a rustic, airy dining room. From their seats, patrons enjoy views of an open kitchen where a talented staff prepares delectable plates of crispy pork belly, pan-roasted maple duck breast, and seafood stew featuring fresh, local mussels and fish.

Things to Do

College Avenue is the undisputed hotspot of the community. In addition to shopping, restaurants, and a great nightlife scene, a great selection of salons, spas, plant nurseries, and other convenient local businesses can be found.
