Local Lifestyle

Montclair residents enjoy a slower pace of life than their neighbors across the bay or those just three miles south. Thanks to a convenient location upon the Warren Freeway and close proximity to other major eastward/westward freeways, commutes into central Oakland or onto the San Francisco Peninsula are simple. Weekends are spent wandering Montclair Village sampling their great restaurants, or exploring the area’s several shady green spaces. In addition to Montclair Park, located just steps away from Montclair Village, Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park is a favorite Oakland site to explore, stretching across 1,833 acres.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Montclair Village is the community’s central gathering spot for lunch, dinner, cocktails, and every other occasion worth celebrating. Perfectly situated right in the center of town, there truly is something for everyone to sip, savor, and experience.
Nearby, visitors can also find an array of other businesses like gyms, salons and spas, wine bars, or stop by the Montclair Village Farmers’ Market. On Sundays throughout the year, locals can shop for locally raised fruits and vegetables, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, and more.
The Montclair Egg Shop is a storied shop known for breakfast, brunch, and other midday treats. Their eggs Benedict plate is particularly famous, in addition to their crabcake Benedict, huevos rancheros, scramble plates, and golden Belgian waffles.
Crogan’s serves Irish and American pub favorites like fish tacos, French onion soup, steak sandwiches, and clam chowder, among many others in a spacious dining room and at their popular bar. Situated in Montclair Village, both quiet crowds and vivacious sports watchers have enjoyed their downhome favorites and warm hospitality.
Another local favorite is found at Italian Colors. A comforting, neighborly dining room is where patrons enjoy authentic lasagna, short ribs, smoked chicken fettuccine, and other Italian classics. Their impressive wine list makes a perfect meal impossibly better.

Things to Do

Montclair is very conveniently situated on Highway 13 leading north and south to other major regional freeways. Via this freeway, Montclair locals can reach Berkeley, central Oakland, and, by extension, the San Francisco peninsula, making commutes to work, fun events, and other parts of California very simple. Montclair also boasts a high concentration of green spaces and parks, providing locals with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Montclair Park is positioned within the center of town, featuring a pond, sporting courts, scenic spots to enjoy picnics, and playground facilities for children. For something more spacious, Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve stretches across over 925 acres. While the seven-mile hike up the hill may be challenging, those who make it to the top are rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire bay.

One of Oakland’s finest neighborhoods is also home to some of the most immaculate schools. One example includes:
  • Head-Royce School, kindergarten-12th grade; Niche.com’s third-best private school in the state of California also boasts impressively low student-teacher ratios, very high college entrance exam scores, and an incredible STEM program
